Artists Statement
I am fascinated with the both the act and process of painting. I enjoy all of the variables and unknowns that can occur in a seemingly simple process. I enjoy the challenges brought to my original ideas and intuitions from an errant brushstroke, a drip of paint or an instant decision to rearrange the composition. I enjoy both the simplicity and the complex and infinite possibilities in using basic shapes and lines. I enjoy working with a medium and surface that are alive, where each piece has it's own unique personality. I have witnessed this combination of oil and raw canvas bleed, breathe and mutate and am intrigued by this personification. |

The co ee is cultivated on small clusters of plots, ranging from .5 to 1 hectare per farmer. Co ee is the only source of cash income for the growers as all other land is used to grow food crops for family consumption. |

Flores Wongawali Bajawa
Heavy fruit juiciness welcomes you into a deep house trance of islandesque sweetness. Fresh ripe tropical fruits meld with hints of sweet savory thai basil and sweet red peppers. Flores is one of the big islands in the Lesser Sunda archipelago in Indonesian ocean near Sumatra. The Bajawa ethnic group mainly inhabits the eastern part of the central highlands, in Ngada District, on the slopes of the Inerie volcano (2,245 m). Fertilizer inputs have almost never been applied by the farmers, other than organic manure and composting. Traditionally the farmers handpick only the mature (red) cherries. After picking the cherry is hand sorted to remove under-ripes. |
